The news from Google regarding their iGoogle service says they are “retiring” that service on November 1, 2013.
Looks like my decision to learn how to use WordPress to continue my internet presence when Apple announced the discontinuance of their iWeb service a while back was a good one.
Climbing the WordPress learning curve has been a bit of a chore for me, but it is coming along nicely considering all the distractions I have encountered over the past several months. The main “distraction” has been a health problem that required a major operation in February, 2012, and the rather long recovery process that is still underway as of July, 2012, the month in which I will celebrate my 78th birthday.
It appears that providing some internet services is no longer a profit-making proposition for companies like Google and Apple, so it is good to have folks like the WordPress crew around. Not being a fan of the new “mobile” digital world, if WordPress throws in the towel along at some future date, that will be the end of my internet presence because I have no intention of climbing another learning curve at my age.
Perhaps WordPress will hang in there for all us luddites who still want to maintain a traditional web site. I certainly hope so !
