Our young ( about 5 years old) fishtail palm has a new frond reaching for the sky.
As you can see in the photo, the ” spike ” that has been growing for several months is finally beginning to unwind and reveal the ” fishtails ” inside.
When the frond has fully spread, the palm will be about 14 feet high and about 8 feet in diameter.
At the base, the trunk is only about 10 inches in diameter.
Soon, another spike will spring from the midst of the fronds, and we will watch it grow to a new height, then spread to add more greenery for out garden. I understand that a mature Fishtail Palm can reach a height of 50 feet, or more.
