No Quarrel with Comfort

I realize that many folks draw comfort from their religion.

I have no quarrel with comfort.

I do, however, have a quarrel with insertion of religion into our government and/or our public education system.

Our government was formed as a secular institution, and I hope we can keep it that way. There are many who want the U S of A to become a “Christian nation”; there are some who (mistakenly) declare that we are a Christian nation that has gone astray.

Without the first amendment to the constitution, I think we might become a theocracy, much to the chagrin of nonbelievers and those of a religion that is different from the one in power.

I would not want to live in the Christian version of Saudi Arabia. There was a time when virtually every country in Europe was a Christian theocracy . . . it’s called the Dark Ages.

Amen to that! I can’t imagine what it would be like if the government ruled the church — or vice versus!
