H A P P Y H O L I D A Y S !

Isn’t the Winter Solstice season wonderful ?!

These holidays are celebrated, in one way or another, all around the world.

Most people in the northern hemisphere celebrate the winter solstice as a part of the ancient agricultural cycle that sustains all human life. Of course, “down under”, south of the equator, it is the summer solstice, but that’s another story.

Christians celebrate winter solstaice as the time of Christ’s birth.

Others celebrate significant events, real or mythical, to commemorate guideposts in their culture.

Some just want to party.

This season reminds us to be thankful for the past year and to look forward to another. With a faith bordering on certainty, we look from the depths of Winter as this dirt ball we call home continues to dance toward Spring in the gravitational embrace of our very own star.

We pause to say nice things to those to whom we should have been saying nice (or nicer) things all year long.

We can forget, if only for a little while, all the yucky and depressing things that happen, and celebrate the good and uplifting.

We can, if we so desire, exchange gifts, cards, and computer generated family newsletters.

All these things say, to one degree or another: “You are important to me, I like you, and I wish you well.”

Regardless of how you choose to celebrate, may peace and joy be yours during the holidays, and throughout the coming trip around the sun.
